Rich Meissner has planned a great meeting for us:
"I have reserved the banquet room at the Old Mill Café in Modesto for 11 AM on January 13th, 2013. At Bob’s suggestion, I said to expect about 20 people. It is located at 600 9th Street (corner of F Street). Their phone number is 209-524-0451. This section of 9th Street is part of Highway 132, so it should be easy to find for those unfamiliar with the area. The Old Mill Café does not have a website, so I will plan to take a couple of pictures this week for use in the EN.
I spoke with Ellen LaCoste (209-577-5235) about a group tour of the McHenry Mansion (built in 1883) which is owned by the City of Modesto. She will arrange to have an extra docent available for us. Due to some smoke and water damage from a fire about a year ago, only the lower floor is open to the public but I think it is worth seeing. It is located at 15th and I Streets, only a few blocks from the Old Mill. There is no admission charge, and the building has an elevator.
An additional nearby attraction is the McHenry Museum (formerly the McHenry Library, built in 1912) located at 14th and I Streets. It has permanent exhibits covering local history, and traveling exhibits. I do not know what the traveling exhibit will be in January. There is no admission charge, and the building has an elevator."
