Welcome to the October CALmoto Shop Ride! We will be riding out on Sunday, October 5th, leaving CALmoto parking lot at 9:00 am. This Sunday ride is to Point Reyes Station and the Lighthouse at Point Reyes. I’ll have maps for everyone at the shop as well as coffee. We’ll have a short meeting on safety and talk about the route before we leave. Please be gassed up and ready to go at that time. Please arrive a little early to have a chance to relax and socialize before the ride.
We leave the shop at 9am toward San Francisco via 280 North. We’ll get to 280 North via San Antonio Rd, Foothill Expwy, El Monte-Moody Road. We’ll proceed to the city exiting onto 19th Avenue thru to the Golden Gate Bridge. We’ll be stopping to regroup at the VISTA POINT on the north side at approximately 9:50/ 10 am. Riders from San Francisco and parts of the north peninsula can meet us there. We’ll then proceed up 101 North to the MILL VALLEY/STINSON BEACH/HWY 1 EXIT just past Sausalito. We’ll follow the signs to Hwy 1 and turn left at the TAM JUNCTION. This part of Hwy 1 is called the SHORELINE HIGHWAY. We’ll proceed till it meets the PANORAMIC HWY towards MUIR WOODS, and TURN Right uphill there. We’ll proceed uphill to the junction of MUIR WOODS RD/SEQUOIA VALLEY RD. and take the middle fork continuing on the PANORAMIC HWY. We’ll follow it just below the summit of Mt. Tamalpais back to the SHORELINE HWY/HWY 1 just south of STINSON BEACH. We’ll regroup here then proceed north up to BEAR VALLEY RD. and TURN LEFT. This will take us towards the LIGHTHOUSE and turn into SIR FRANCIS DRAKE BLVD towards INVERNESS. This is the western end of SIR FRANCIS DRAKE BLVD. and we’ll follow it past farms and grasslands of the Point Reyes National Seashore to LIGHTHOUSE RD. to the very end of the peninsula. There will be the LIGHTHOUSE and small parking area with bathrooms. We’ll spend perhaps 30 minutes here, see the Lighthouse and overlook of Point Reyes Beach.
From there we’ll ride back on SIR FRANCIS DRAKE BLVD into POINT REYES STATION for lunch. This is a small town with restaurants, delis and sandwich shops, a bank/ATM, and a grocery store. There’s a gas station at the NORTH end of town to refuel if you need to. This is where the ride will end. Enjoy your lunches and head back to the city straight back on the SHORELINE HWY or take alternate routes to Hwy 101. Remember there is a bridge toll going into the city!! So bring your Fastrack.
As always, please be sure to stay within the safe limits of your riding ability. This is a social ride, not a race, so always ride within your comfort zone and work on being the smoothest rider on the ride, not the fastest. True riding skill is built on the practice of smoothness, control and a sense of the right line, not on trying to go fast. So as always, this is a leisurely ride, nothing difficult, and please, no racing! I hope you can join us.
All brands are welcome. Have fun and be safe!
