Welcome Friends to the May 4th Shop Ride (WELL....Sort of!)
WE ARE GOING RACING!
As many of you may (or may not) know, CalMoto has a race team! In addition to sponsoring several riders in both off-road and road racing we have a fully sponsored “factory” team running a KTM RC8 with our rider Eric Gulbransen. What does this have to do with a shop ride? This month instead of our regular organized shop ride, we would like to invite you up to Sonoma Raceway http://www.racesonoma.com/fanguide/maps/ and cheer us on as CalMoto and Eric attempt to capture another Open Twins Championship with the American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) club series. We won our first race a few weeks back at Buttonwillow and the bike is prepped and ready to make a repeat trip to the podium!

So what is the plan? I will be heading up to Sonoma Raceway on Saturday May 3rd to set up our pit and hospitality area. I will be at the racetrack both Saturday and Sunday, which means there will not be any organized shop ride leaving from the shop. However, we encourage each and every one of you to use this as an excuse to ride your bike out to the track and cheer us on! CalMoto will have a hospitality area set up with plenty of food and refreshments and access to our pits for our customers. If you want to see how club racing works or are just interested in how a team and rider prepare for a race, this is your chance to get an inside look.
If you have never seen an AFM race this is a great opportunity. This weekend will feature many AMA racers (as a lot of them are out here for another west coast series) along with our regular, fast club guys. The AFM is widely considered the most competitive club series in the nation and has graduated a large number of talented riders to the national and international ranks. http://www.afmreunion.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44&Itemid=49
CalMoto and Eric will be racing in both the Open twins and Formula Pacific races. The race schedule can vary a bit on the day of the race (Sunday May 4th) but if you arrive at the track by 10am you will be sure to catch our first race and we should be done racing by 3pm. We welcome you to ride up on your bike and there is plenty of parking at the track.
